RHS exhibit one:
I was totally captivated by these strange, complex but beautiful plants.
Sarracenia are subject to habitat loss and poaching. Being bog plants they are also affected by climate change; 95% of their wetland habitats in the USA have disappeared. They are all on the CITES list of endangered plants.
Sarracenia oreophila var.ornata is extremely rare in the wild and Sarracenia leucophylla ‘Tarnok’ (see exhibit six) is now unknown in the wild.
Each plant presented its own challenges, but all were a joy to observe and paint.
